It is winter. When I look around outside, I see bareness and the appearance of things dying, but that's not what is really happening. The energy of the plants is retreating into the depths of their roots. Their life force contracts and pulls in, down and deep as they release what is no longer needed.
When I think of a new year I think of a fresh start, a new beginning; a second, third or another chance. Yet, the wisdom of the plant knows even more than that. They know they are nature's creation. They know the fullness and necessity of all the seasons. They know the phases they've been through and have yet to go through. They know their blueprint.
Like a breath, plants know the importance and significance
of the time for seasonal contractions. As with a breath, our bodies cannot exhale or inhale without a contraction. With a breath, we get rid of what is of no use to us and we invite inspiration to fill our body and our mind. A breath starts a new life, and a breath can start a new year.
What if we, as humans, aren't really any different than the plants? What if we really understood that we can never be separated from creation? We too are nature's creation. What if we could recognize the value of all the seasons of our lives? We could know that we have truly endless possibilities for the breath of our lives, and hold precious each experience. We can know that even though it appears that things are bare and dying, down deep within, they, we are really very much alive.
Perhaps our lives would look a bit different if we trusted, like the plants, the natural unfolding. We could believe that the times when our life feels barren, uninspired or blocked; have great value that will bring forth new life. We might not be so afraid of these difficult times, but like the plants, we can pull ourselves down into our roots. Like the roots, we can dig deep into the understanding that we are in a state of contraction, trusting this necessary preparation for the beautiful unfolding that is inevitable.
As we continue to move into this new year, we can look outside at nature and appreciate what we see with new eyes. We can acknowledge that we are no different because we too belong to nature and that our natural unfolding is just like the plants ...there always is a continuous natural creative unfolding. We can be reminded that a tree doesn't compare itself to another tree. They simply are there "being" allowing nature to take care of them. They know that new growth and expansion beyond what once was is coming. They appreciate that whatever grows near them is there for their mutual benefit. In nature everything is provided.
We can look around, wherever we are, with new eyes and appreciate what we see with the knowledge that we too are being provided for by nature. We can look at those we live near knowing they are there for our mutual benefit. We can look around our home, those we live with and even inside ourselves, and appreciate who we are and all we've been through, the many contractions and expansions. We
can accept the support being offered to assist us in accessing all this innate wisdom.
In our lives, just as in nature, everything is provided. We also know our blueprint. It is simply a matter of trusting.
